Overview
Vantage is looking for a Director, Electrical Engineering, EMEA, to be part of the MCE team that leads design and engineering within the construction process and engage in all technical aspects of development. This role leads a team of electrical engineers and Technical Leads focused on data center critical infrastructure systems, responsible for high-level schematic system design, specification development, submittal review, design document review, installation oversight, commissioning participation, and transition to operations. It serves as the SPOC for the organization and owns the design output. The role includes career development for direct reports, recruitment, and onboarding to electrical engineering standards of Vantage. You will coordinate with other department leaders (Sales, Customer Solutions, Customer Centric, Design Management, Development, Finance, Legal, HR, Innovation CSA, Delivery, Automation & Controls, Security, IT, and Operations) and collaborate with managers across Vantage regions to ensure consistent product delivery. The team will tackle complex engineering challenges, enforce and enhance existing standards, and evaluate designs to balance CAPEX and OPEX. The position also involves participating in, contributing to, and leading cross-functional initiatives to shape the company’s long-term vision.
Responsibilities
* Provide visionary leadership and set the strategic direction for the Electrical Engineering team in the EMEA region, aligning with Vantage's goals.
* Drive innovation and best practices in electrical engineering design and construction, fostering excellence and continuous improvement.
* Develop and implement long-term electrical engineering plans to support expansion into new markets and maintain industry leadership.
* Build and lead a high-performing team with the resources, tools, and support needed to excel.
* Mentor and guide team members, promoting professional growth and development.
* Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment with knowledge sharing and cross-functional cooperation.
* Oversee planning, design, and execution of multiple engineering projects across the EMEA region within budget, schedule, and quality standards.
* Coordinate with facilities operations, sales, marketing, and subject matter experts to ensure seamless project delivery and customer satisfaction.
* Implement effective project management practices and tools to monitor progress, identify risks, and apply mitigation strategies.
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, clients, contractors, and vendors, to align on project objectives.
* Act as the primary point of contact for electrical engineering inquiries and maintain open communication with stakeholders.
* Champion a culture of continuous improvement, adopting new technologies, methodologies, and best practices.
* Identify risks and develop strategies to minimize impact on project outcomes; implement lessons learned for future projects.
* Travel across the EMEA region to oversee project sites and engage with stakeholders as needed.
* Develop and implement emergency response protocols to address potential crises related to engineering projects, ensuring safety of employees and assets.
* Manage electrical engineering activities from site adaptation through commissioning across Vantage's expansion projects in EMEA.
* Drive engineering decisions to conclusions, coordinating internal and external resources, project teams, contractors, and vendors.
* QA/QC work products of direct reports and ensure data center spaces comply with requirements (OPR, specifications, code, lease, etc.).
* Own resource allocation and project workflow for direct reports and third-party contingent workforce.
* Create and manage Statements of Work (SOW) for engineering design on VDC projects and customer builds.
* Support Corporate Development with technical due diligence reviews of data center assets.
* Support sales in customer engagement during build-out and fulfillment of lease requirements.
* Manage engineering vendors, including qualification and relationship building.
* Document and feed lessons learned from projects into continuous improvement at the program level.
* Coordinate with site operations to ensure site adaptation projects meet program standards and operations requirements; provide support for issues during operation.
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar technical field from an accredited university or college.
* Accredited engineering credentials preferred (Chartered / Professional Engineer).
* 10+ years of experience in data center electrical engineering management or equivalent managerial positions required; 15 years preferred.
* Data Center experience is required.
* Experience in EMEA construction markets is required; NA construction markets experience is preferred.
* Understanding of Revit, BIM, and Navisworks environments.
* Working knowledge of critical cooling and power infrastructure within a data center project.
* Working knowledge of building and fire codes and ordinances.
* Excellent communication skills for presenting information to executive management, operations, sales engineering, and finance.
* National and international travel required, typically between 25% and 50% but may vary over time.
