As the Head of Project Controls – Major Projects, you are a strategic leader responsible for overseeing SFL’s Major Projects and project control processes. Your role is to ensure that projects are equipped with the necessary control toolsets to monitor, control, and inform, enabling projects to be delivered on time, within budget, and to the desired quality standards.
Your responsibilities include developing and implementing project control strategies, processes, and procedures, and monitoring their effectiveness. You manage SFL’s Major Projects schedules and cost management, while enabling the identification and mitigation of strategic and business risks. Additionally, you lead a team of project controls professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and training.
The Head of Project Controls must possess excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. They should have a deep understanding of project management methodologies and tools, along with a strong background in risk analysis, cost engineering, and scheduling. Being highly organized and detail-oriented, they can prioritize tasks, manage budgets and resources, and ensure projects are fully supported by the function.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain a successful P3 (Portfolio, Programme, Project) controls level of service to ensure all scope is supported effectively, including timely recruitment and deployment of resources.
2. Guide, develop, maintain, and communicate all P3 controls processes and procedures.
3. Provide expert input and advice, and represent P3 controls at Programme and Portfolio Boards.
4. Lead a team of project control experts, planners, reporting, and risk managers to deliver high-quality services on major projects.
5. Ensure programme and project delivery is effectively supported with quality schedule, cost, and risk monitoring, updates, and forecasts, adhering to reporting schedules.
6. Lead the implementation of project control management arrangements.
7. Set objectives for team members, review performance, undertake appraisals, and provide ongoing feedback.
8. Promote behaviors that encourage continuous learning, motivation, development, and support within the team.
9. Govern and assure the Project Controls function.
Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:
Education Level: Degree or HNC/HND preferred
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a lead project controls role
Certifications: APM
Skills and Competencies:
* Proven experience in P3M (Portfolio, Programme, Project) Management techniques
* Experience with Primavera P6
* Proficient in EVM processes, schedule, cost, risk, change management, and reporting
* Experience leading large, diverse teams
* Knowledge of PMO reporting, project controls methodologies, earned value management, and change management
* Solid experience with cost, schedule, risk, and estimating
