S D Garner & Co Limited, a well-established accountancy firm in Hornchurch, is looking for a Semi-Senior Accounts Assistant to join our friendly and experienced team.

Semi-Senior Accounts Assistant - What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Semi-Senior, you’ll support senior staff with general practice work including accounts preparation, tax compliance, and payroll services:
* Preparing year-end accounts (FRS 102 & FRS 105) for a range of entities
* Preparing bookkeeping and producing management accounts
* Preparing and filing VAT returns for your own portfolio
* Effectively manage time to ensure that jobs are finished within budget and deadlines are met.
* Assisting with monthly client payrolls, including RTI and auto-enrolment
* Helping clients use MTD-compliant software and cloud platforms
* Assisting with onboarding new clients and maintaining accurate records
* Liaise with clients to request records, resolve queries, and provide day-to-day support
* Supporting the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns
* Keeping up to date with current tax and accounting standards
* Managing client communications and maintaining excellent relationships
* Researching IT software, accounting and tax issues as needed
* Support senior team members with ad hoc accounting and reporting tasks
Semi-Senior Accounts Assistant - What We’re Looking For:
* 2–3 years’ experience in UK accountancy practice
* Part-qualified ACCA / AAT Level 3 or 4, or equivalent experience
* Working knowledge of QuickBooks, IRIS, Sage, FreeAgent, and Payroll Manager
* Understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD)
* Solid technical accounting and tax knowledge
* Experience in payroll (preferred, not essential)
* Ability to work independently and within a team environment
* Professional, organised, and client-focused approach
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
