Job Title: Senior Design Engineer
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of bespoke computing and communications productsfrom concept through to implementation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing the engineering lifecycle of both fixed and portable computer-based systems, ensuring that they meet strict functional, EMC, and environmental requirements.
This position requires a deep understanding of electronics engineering and computer systems, hands-on engineering and project management capabilities ensuring that all designs meet stringent EMC and environmental requirements. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player and problem solver, capable of delivering high-quality results in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the end-to-end design and development of custom electronic/computer based products, including functional, EMC, and environmental testing.
Oversee product qualification activities (e.g., EMC, Safety, and environmental) and ensure all technical documentation and compliance standards are met.
Collaborate closely with internal teams to coordinate product development, testing, and manufacturing processes.
Create and maintain comprehensive technical wiring diagrams and schematics and design specifications.
Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) using an MRP system, ensuring accuracy and version control.
Apply engineering change control processes to introduce and track design modifications.
Provide technical support to Purchasing and Supply Chain teams.
Build and maintain effective relationships with component suppliers; evaluate and recommend alternative components and cables where appropriate.
Support production operations and ensure alignment with customer requirements and quality standards.
Act as a technical authority across all phases of product development, including system integration and customer support. Providing engineering support across production operations to ensure delivery of quality products that meet customer expectations
Key Skills & Experience
Valid UK driving license and access to own vehicle.
Strong practical experience in fabrication, assembly, electrical wiring, crimping, soldering, and plastic moulding.
Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee complex computer or electromechanical product development projects.
Experience with qualification and verification testing procedures.
Familiarity with relevant industry and military documentation standards.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
Strong understanding of EMC, LVD, and environmental compliance processes.
Hands-on experience with fabrication, assembly, electrical wiring, crimping, soldering, and plastic moulding.
Experience designing products to meet EMC and environmental compliance standards.
Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Product Design Engineering.
Additional Requirements
UK citizenship and eligibility for UK Government Security Clearance (mandatory).
