Our client is seeking a skilled Design Engineer to take responsibility for the design and costing of complex life safety and electronic security systems. This will include, but is not limited to: fire detection, voice alarm, disabled refuge, CCTV, access control, intercom, public address, structured cabling, and intruder systems.
Key Responsibilities - Design Engineer
* Support the Design Management team with sales enquiries and tenders
* Design a range of life safety, security, and integrated building systems based on customer requirements, specifications, drawings, and current industry standards
* Prepare proposals, quotations, and tender documents, ensuring all submissions are accurate, timely, and aligned with company standards
* Assess security and fire risk factors, enhancing designs where required or providing feedback and recommendations to clients
* Ensure all designs and quotations comply with relevant technical and regulatory standards (e.g., EN, BS, HTM) as well as BAFE/NSI Codes of Practice
* Adhere to company policies regarding quality, health & safety, and false alarm management
* Produce detailed CAD design and construction drawings, ensuring handovers are completed accurately and project deadlines are met
* Travel to client and supplier sites across the UK and Europe as required
Qualifications & Requirements - Design Engineer
* Proven experience in the design of fire and security systems
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to design systems, prepare cost sheets, and draft proposal documents
* Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders
* Confident in interpreting and working from specifications and technical drawings
* Highly organised with excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and time management skills
* Desirable Skills & Experience
* Proficiency in AutoCAD software packages
* Up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, technical standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to system design
* Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO9001, SSQS101, FSQS121
* Strong understanding of the construction industry and tendering processes
* Previous experience working within a goal-driven, results-oriented environment
