Job overview

The Practice Development (PDM) Midwife is a proactive midwifery leader, teacher, and role model hosted by the Family Health Division to work across NUH maternity services. The role involves developing best practices related to student midwifery practice education to ensure successful registration upon training completion.

The PDM acts as a visible resource for support and advice for senior midwives, education leads, practice supervisors/assessors, and managers, particularly concerning competence and capability concerns.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The PDM leads on developing excellence in midwifery practice education, ensuring high-quality support and assessment for students and learners, in line with NMC standards. The role involves ensuring effective theory and practice learning, responding to regulatory guidance, and equipping educators and assessors with necessary skills.

The PDM is a clinical leader, highly visible and accessible, working with education leads, midwives, and senior staff to share best practices, improve student and staff satisfaction, retention, recruitment, and multidisciplinary teamwork. The role also involves maintaining high standards in education, research, and clinical care, and collaborating with regulatory bodies and HEI partners to uphold governance and quality standards.
