Head of Psychology, HMP Long Lartin
This role is an opportunity to lead a team of Forensic Psychology staff within this High Security setting. The post holder will be a core member of the establishment senior management team, providing consultancy to the Governor and working in close operational and clinical partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues. As Head of Psychology, they will be part of the Long Term and High Security Estate Psychology senior leadership team, joining a highly supportive network of peers.
In this role you will continue the development of the Psychology Service and contribute to the provision of a safe and rehabilitative environment for men in long‑term custody. You will also be involved in innovative projects, organisational consultancy and personal continued professional development. The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows.
Primary Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the forensic psychology team, ensuring the delivery and quality of psychological services.
* Provide strategic leadership as part of the senior management team, advising the Governor and operating in partnership with multidisciplinary staff.
* Oversee service development and contribute to the safe and rehabilitative environment within the prison.
* Engage in innovative projects and organisational consultancy within the wider directorate.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council, eligible to use a protected title.
* Full member of the appropriate division of the British Psychological Society (BPS) – Charter status if required.
* Minimum of two years’ registered experience delivering psychological services directly and through a managed team.
* Excellent written and spoken English.
* Evidence of experience through CV or work history, and a statement of suitability.
Working Conditions
* Standard full‑time (37 hours per week, excluding unpaid breaks); part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing arrangements are considered.
* Hybrid working available – base location, MoJ sites and/or home, subject to business need and individual suitability.
* Annual leave calculated pro‑rata; Holiday year runs from 1 March.
* Public, bank and privilege holidays (9 days – 66 hours 36 minutes) added to annual leave.
* Choice of two Civil Service pension schemes.
* Season ticket advance available after two months of service.
