University Hospital Southampton NHS FT invites applications for a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Job Overview
This role involves leading paediatric orthopaedic care at Southampton Children’s Hospital and Dorset County Hospital (Dorchester), providing 24‑hour paediatric orthopaedic service within the Southampton Paediatric Major Trauma Centre and serving as a key link for orthopaedics at spoke hospitals. You will have the opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest in limb reconstruction, neuromuscular orthopaedics and trauma.
About the Team
Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery sits within the Child Health Care Group of the Women’s and Children’s Division. The unit provides general and specialist services to children and hosts day‑case, ward and Trauma Centre admissions. Clinical and research responsibilities are delivered in dedicated orthopaedic theatres and peripheral clinics.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Key duties include:
* Full range of general and specialist consultant duties
* Adherence to the agreed job plan
* Training and support of junior medical staff
* Ensuring junior staff meet best practice standards
* Representing the Division and hospital at external meetings and conferences
* Developing the Clinical Network and Hub & Spoke model of specialist paediatric surgery
* Contributing to research and audit activities
Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent recognised qualification
* Fellowship trained in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery
* Excellent experience in paediatric orthopaedic trauma including poly‑trauma
* Full fellowship training in paediatric orthopaedic surgery
* Experience of audit and clinical governance
* Expertise in neuromuscular practice
Desirable criteria
* CCT in Trauma and Orthopaedics
* ATLS qualified or equivalent
* Research experience, publications and interest in developing a research programme
