About the role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Design Manager to support the assurance of the proposed solution across the design, construction, and handover phases, working closely with commercial, production, engineering, digital, and asset stakeholders.
What you'll be doing
Design Management & Integration
* Support the development and coordination of design proposals in line with Employer’s Requirements, statutory obligations, budget constraints, and programme commitments.
* Provide technical input on constructability, sequencing, temporary works integration, commissioning, and maintenance considerations.
Technical Assurance & Governance
* Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs, including M&E, specialist designers, subcontractors, novated designers, and third‑party contributors.
* Manage allocated subcontractor design packages, ensuring scope clarity, interface alignment, timely delivery, and appropriate technical review.
Progressive Assurance & Design Maturity
* Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs, including M&E, specialist designers, subcontractors, novated designers, and third‑party contributors.
* Provide technical input on constructability, sequencing, temporary works integration, commissioning, and maintenance considerations.
Programme, Information & BIM
* Manage assigned elements of the design deliverables programme, ensuring alignment with construction and commissioning requirements.
* Coordinate the production of design information, models, and documentation in line with contractual and BIM requirements.
Model Maturity (3D and 5D)
* Support the progressive development of 3D and 5D models in line with the Design Maturity Roadmap and assurance requirements.
* Work with BIM, planning, and commercial teams to ensure models support:
o Multidisciplinary coordination and clash avoidance
o Construction planning and sequencing
o Quantification and cost forecasting
o Risk identification and option evaluation
Construction Phase Support
* Provide technical support during construction, assisting with resolution of design queries, RFIs, and non‑conformances.
* Support assurance of design changes, ensuring technical justification and appropriate approval.
Handover & Close‑Out
* Support assurance of design outputs to enable effective commissioning, handover, and transition into operation.
* Coordinate the production, review, and assurance of as‑built information and handover documentation.
Wider Project Integration
* Support stakeholder engagement by communicating design maturity, confidence levels, and technical risk at key milestones.
* Ensure design maturity and assurance outputs inform risk management, procurement strategy, and commercial confidence.
Who we're looking for
* Experience supporting design management and technical assurance on complex infrastructure projects.
* Strong coordination and stakeholder engagement skills in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
* Good understanding of design maturity, assurance processes, and handover readiness.
* Working knowledge of BIM and modern procurement routes.
* Relevant professional membership (or working toward) such as ICE, IET, CIBSE, RIBA, or equivalent.
* Valid CSCS card.
* Strong IT capability (Microsoft Office essential).
* Clear and effective technical communication and reporting skills.
