Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant psychologist with an interest in professional development in the field of parent-infant mental health to join our Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Parent Infant Mental Health Service (PIMHS). As an assistant psychologist you will be integral to the delivery of a high-quality parent infant mental health service across the borough. You will be joining an experienced, skilled and highly committed team.

You will receive line management supervision and clinical supervision from the clinical lead for PIMHS .


Main duties of the job

You will be supporting with the delivery of a clinical service to babies and families through developing and assisting with group work, developing resources (digital and hard copies), and supporting clinicians with their clinical work. There will be opportunities for undertaking some low level clinical work under closely monitored supervision within the level of your own competence.

The role includes supporting the delivery of the Best Start for Life programme for local babies and their parents and carers. This involve promoting awareness of the importance of parent infant mental health by providing support with coordinating workforce training, and contributing to our social media presence and digital offer.

The role will also involve contributing to the evaluation of service activity and delivery for BSFL across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale by collecting, analysing and summarising data for reporting and clinical purposes.


Working for our organisation

The postholder will be a member the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Early Attachment Service, a multi- disciplinary parent-infant mental health (PIMH) service for under 2s. We provide a clinical service, training, consultation, and supervision across the large multi-agency network of professionals. We have good links with Health Visiting, Maternity Services, Children’s Centres, Adult Mental Health, Voluntary sector, Children’s Social Care and Early Help.
The team has regular face-to-face team meetings, individual supervisions and line management. There are regular opportunities for support and CPD.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

* An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society


Desirable criteria

* Undergraduate research relevant to Child Psychology • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of psychology and / or mental health


Experience


Essential criteria

* Work as a Psychology Assistant in Child Specialty


Desirable criteria

* Experience using micro computers for data analysis


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* An understanding of infant development, parental mental health and the parent-infant relationship
* Knowledge of child development
* An understanding of psychology applied to mental health care


Desirable criteria

* Evidence of ability to design and evaluate research projects relevant to Clinical Psychology


Skills and Abilities


Essential criteria

* High level of communication skills (written and verbal)
* An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and an ability to interact with babies and their families
* Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively
* Ability to use modern digital technology, online applications and social media


Desirable criteria

* High Standard of report writing
* An interest in working with parent infant mental health
* A desire to explore a career in Clinical Psychology

What happens after your application has been received?

You will be informed about the progress of your application following shortlisting via email. Only applicants who clearly demonstrate the criteria listed in the person specification will be shortlisted for interview. Interview invites will be sent out via email.

What happens if I am offered the position after interview?

The hiring manager will make contact with you to verbally offer you the position. The hiring manager will then inform Recruitment of the decision and provide relevant paperwork. You will be sent a formal conditional offer via email.

What pre-employment checks will I need to complete?

By conducting pre-employment checks, the recruitment team will verify that you meet the pre-conditions of the role you have been offered. Pre-employment checks will be carried out according to. The checks are:

* Professional registration and/or qualification check
