Lumai is an Oxford-based start-up creating the next generation of hardware for AI acceleration using 3D optical computing – a technology that uses light to compute at faster speeds and greater scales while consuming less energy than traditional electronics.
Lumai has raised $10m in the latest funding round to develop the world’s fastest optical processor, which will be ready for use by end of 2025. By 2027, Lumai will launch the Light Processing Unit (LPU) product with compute speed matching the most advanced GPU at that time – with a 3-5X higher energy efficiency. This breakthrough in optical computing will significantly reduce total cost of ownership and token cost, offering a uniquely scalable and energy-efficient path forward for AI and high-performance workloads.
Join us to become part of a multidisciplinary team spanning optics, electronics, software and AI/ML algorithms, and grow with us as we become world leaders in this exciting new era of computing!
