Job summary

To lead, develop and provide the specialist occupational therapy clinical service to adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities / differences within a community, inpatient or other specialist settings as part of the Neurodevelopmental Specialist Service (NeSS) ensuring effective delivery of clinical evidence-based practice.


Main duties of the job

The role requires an experienced senior clinician with proven clinical and professional expertise in order that adults with neurodevelopmental difficulties can be supported to focus on quality of life, meaningful activity and occupational function and performance.

The postholder will take an active lead in personalised and collaborative working inclusive of collaborative assessment, formulation and diagnosis, leading personalised care and support.

The post-holder will support and inform the multi-disciplinary diagnostic process through conducting standardised functional assessment of activities of daily living to inform and influence the individual's positive health outcomes through optimal functioning.


DBS Note

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have extensive experience and qualifications related to supporting individuals with sensory processing disorders and the focus. Supporting individuals where sensory processing impacts on performance and occupation will be inclusive of the ability to:

* a) Understanding the implications of sensory impairments on occupational performance and supporting individuals with understanding, self‑regulation, modulation, praxis in order to inform adjustments.
* b) Synthesise and appraise the neuroscience and evidence base underpinning theories relating to the processing and integration of sensory stimuli which impact on the lives of people supported.
* c) Assess, and evidence the need for interventions for development of sensory integration.
* d) Select and plan interventions for development of sensory integration, including selection of appropriate outcome measures.

To work collaboratively with MDT members as well as multi‑agencies/services and stakeholders across Nottinghamshire.

The role requires an experienced clinician with proven clinical supervision skills who demonstrates credibility and can influence specialist service delivery.

The post holder will provide clinical management and offer support to Occupational Therapist through excellent leadership and management and clinical expertise.


Person Specification

Qualifications:

* Essential: Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Desirable: Leadership/management qualifications

Training:

* Essential: Good record of Continuing Professional Development and willingness to continue this; Leadership and management Training/experience.
* Desirable: Neurodevelopmental diagnostic standardised assessments

Experience:

* Essential: Specialist experience of contributing to the planning and successful delivery of clinical services; Clinical leadership skills and experience of working with a team/service through a time of re-design and modernisation; Specialist application of the occupational therapy process with designated client group; Supervisory/appraisal skills; Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities; Ability to organise and respond effectively to complex information; Good organisation skills; Ability to work under pressure and to set priorities; Ability to analyse and resolve professional and ethical issues; Experience of managing own caseload and diary; Working knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance and its application.
* Desirable: Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes; Presentation and training skills; Knowledge of a range of community agencies/facilities.

Skills:

* Essential: IT skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to assess risk and respond appropriately; Ability to maintain accurate records and data recording, and ensure that team members also complete accurately; Ability to communicate sensitive information to team members, patients, and wider services; Ability to cope under pressure by application of self‑are skills; Demonstrates an understanding of more complex mental health and Personality disorder and intellectual disabilities problems and their management.
* Desirable: Completed clinical audits within a service; Supervision experience and training.

Contractual Requirements:

* Essential: Ability and willingness to travel to locations throughout the organisation. A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; reasonable adjustments for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
