Please see this exciting opportunity to join the team of experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioners in Cardiac Intensive Care at City Hospital, Nottingham.
Cardiac Surgery at Trent Cardiac Centre supports Nottinghamshire and surrounding counties, performing approximately 700 operations annually. The CICU, with 10 beds, and CHDU, with 6 beds, provide necessary organ support for patients before and after surgery.
The specialty ACP team has been established for over 20 years, offering 24/7 coverage of CICU & CHDU. For over a decade, the team has provided sole resident out-of-hours cover, supported by Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetists. During a 3-year MSc training pathway, you will develop advanced assessment, diagnostic, procedural, and other essential skills to work at the top of your license.
We also have a developing ACP team on Morris Ward, a 20-bedded specialty ward.
Beyond clinical duties, the team engages in Research & Service Improvement, Education, and Leadership activities, aligned with 'the 4 pillars of Advanced Practice'. The team maintains strong links with the University of Nottingham.

The Successful Applicant for this Trainee ACP Post in Cardiac Surgery will undertake the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice as an Apprentice, following our supported three-year training pathway:
1. Year 1: Appointed as a Band 6, working in your appropriate role (e.g., nurse, physiotherapist, pharmacist). You will be released 15 hours weekly to complete Year 1 of the MSc.
2. Year 2: After Year 1, you will become a full-time supernumerary trainee, starting work-based learning and non-medical prescribing modules. You will receive dedicated supervision, mentorship, and structured teaching to complete your competency portfolio. Successful completion of Year 2 modules and portfolio will lead to a Band 7 award following an appraisal.
3. Year 3: Following Year 2, you will undertake a Structured Oral Examination. Upon passing, you will transition onto the rota with supervision. After final assessments, you will advance to a Band 8a qualified ACP.
Once qualified, you will join the ACP rota on CICU/CHDU at AfC Band 8a.
