Salary: £51,848 - £55,163 (Based on experience)
Purpose of the Job:
HCL is a leading contract caterer specializing in school feeding, committed to delivering high-quality, nutritious, and engaging food experiences across primary and secondary schools, as well as commercial sites. As the Payroll Manager, you will oversee our payroll functions as we expand across London and the South of England, and work to retain our core customers in Hertfordshire and surrounding counties.
The Payroll Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive payroll service, ensuring accurate employee payments, compliance with legislation and HMRC requirements, and alignment with company values and growth strategies. This role requires a robust knowledge of payroll legislation, best practices, and extensive experience with MHR’s iTrent Payroll and HR system. You will focus on process improvement, technological implementation, and fostering a positive, inclusive employee culture.

Key Duties:
1. Payroll: Ensure compliance at all stages, resolve queries, meet deadlines, lead year-end activities, and maintain data integrity respecting GDPR and Data Protection Act.
2. Management of Managed Payroll Service Provider: Oversee the external provider’s activities, ensure timely processing, and review monthly outputs.
3. Pensions: Coordinate with the pension provider for returns and issue resolution.
4. Employee Pay and Reward: Manage pay awards, bonuses, and related communications.
5. iTrent System Development: Lead system development, ensure user-friendliness, and streamline processes.
6. Payroll Data: Analyze payroll data to inform management decisions.
7. Team Management and Leadership: Lead and develop the payroll team, promote best practices, and uphold professional standards.
8. Pay and Reward Projects: Support projects throughout the employee lifecycle.
The postholder is expected to adapt to reasonable changes in responsibilities.
Person Specification:
* Recent leadership experience in payroll.
* Expertise in iTrent Payroll and HR system.
* Excellent communication and meticulous attention to detail.
* Stakeholder engagement experience.
* Understanding of employment regulations and data analytics.
* Strong organizational, problem-solving, and proactive skills.
* Interpersonal skills with a positive approach.
* Innovative thinking and analytical mindset.
* Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
