Role/Department
The Finance Director Guernsey is responsible for delivering all Finance services into the Bailiwick and its legal entities. This role involves working closely with Line of Business heads and functional leads to achieve Northern Trust's business goals in the jurisdiction. Reporting to a member of the EMEA Finance Leadership Team, the Finance Director supports the delivery and oversight of all Finance functions across the region and is a key member of the Channel Islands’ Executive Committee. The candidate should have excellent people management skills to manage a small local team and oversee outsourced financial processes. Previous banking experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversight of all business finance activities in the Bailiwick, supporting financial planning, reporting, and governance.
2. Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Guernsey Finance function, aligning with business objectives.
3. Manage the preparation and completion of financial statements and reports, including submissions to the Guernsey regulator.
4. Contribute to financial and capital forecasts as part of the ICAAP process.
5. Ensure the integrity and regulatory compliance of financial information.
6. Manage capital, funding, liquidity, treasury, and FX functions.
7. Understand and manage risks within the Finance function, ensuring strong control and governance.
8. Maintain high standards in financial controls, policies, and procedures.
9. Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders such as the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and external auditors.
Skills/Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
* An accountancy qualification with experience in financial control, reporting, and critical accounting concepts.
* Strong business acumen, regulatory knowledge, risk management, and capital allocation experience.
* Experience managing external relationships with regulators and auditors.
* Ability to present to boards and senior leadership, supporting data-driven decisions.
* Leadership skills to manage staff and drive initiatives.
* Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Flexibility to adapt to process changes and workload variations.
* Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
