Foundation Board Secretary (Voluntary Role)

McBride Sport is proud to support the recruitment of a Foundation Board Secretary for the Somerset Cricket Foundation. This voluntary role offers a fantastic opportunity for an organised and governance-minded professional to play a key role supporting the Foundation’s Trustee Board and helping to ensure strong, effective governance for a charity that delivers meaningful impact through cricket and community programmes across Somerset.
Working closely with the Chair of Trustees and Managing Director, the Foundation Board Secretary will be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of Trustee Board and sub-committee meetings, while supporting the Foundation in maintaining excellent governance and regulatory compliance. The role is central to ensuring that the charity’s decision-making processes run effectively and that trustees are supported in fulfilling their responsibilities. Key responsibilities include:
* Coordinate and administer meetings of the Trustee Board and its sub-committees (Finance, Audit, Risk & Fundraising; Governance; Remuneration & Nominations)
* Prepare agendas with the Chair and Managing Director and distribute board papers
* Record accurate minutes and ensure follow-up on actions and decisions
* Support the organisation and delivery of the Annual General Meeting
* Maintain key statutory registers including trustees’ interests and board membership
* Oversee charity compliance requirements including Charity Commission and Companies House filings
* Act as an initial point of contact with regulatory bodies
* Support trustee induction, development and board governance reviews
* Ensure governance frameworks remain aligned with the Charity Governance Code and best practice
The Somerset Cricket Foundation uses the power of cricket to make a positive difference across communities, delivering programmes that support participation, inclusion, education, and wellbeing throughout the county. This role would suit someone with experience in:
* Board or committee administration
* Governance, company secretariat or charity compliance
* Legal, regulatory or organisational administration
Previous charity or governance experience is desirable but not essential. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with senior stakeholders are key. This is a voluntary position, offering the opportunity to contribute to a respected sporting charity and support the continued development of cricket across Somerset.
