Job Details
At self-portrait, we’re looking for a motivated and detail-driven Design Assistant to join our growing Design team. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with a design-led brand, supporting the creation of contemporary, refined collections in a fast-paced and collaborative studio environment.
As Design Assistant, you’ll support the wider Design team and Product Developers across all stages of the design process — from early research and concept development through to tech packs, fittings, and final delivery. You’ll be confident using Photoshop, have a strong eye for fabric, silhouette, and finish, and bring an enthusiastic, proactive approach to day-to-day design work. This role is ideal for someone eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a dynamic fashion team.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Design team across all stages of the design process, from initial concept research through to collection completion.
Assist in creating and maintaining tech packs, line-ups, and internal documents across collections and capsules.
Prepare and update detailed Photoshop CADs, responding accurately and efficiently to fit and design feedback.
Conduct research, concept development, and comp shopping in line with seasonal direction.
Work closely with Product Development to help create and maintain tech packs.
Support fittings, assisting with sample organisation where required.
Assist with fabric research and development, with a focus on trims, finishes, and embellishments.
Help ensure final styles are both creatively strong and commercially viable, working closely with the wider Self-Portrait team.
Requirements
BA or equivalent qualification in Fashion Design or a related discipline.
Entry-level to 1 year’s experience (including internships) within contemporary, premium, or luxury womenswear.
Strong understanding of the Self-Portrait aesthetic and brand identity.
Confident user of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and InDesign.
Strong research skills with a keen eye for detail, silhouette, and finish.
Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Highly organised, quick to learn, and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of fabrics, techniques, and garment construction is an advantage.
Must be eligible to work in the UK.
Please apply with your CV and portfolio. Applications without both documents will not be considered.
