About the Role
As a Control Room Team Leader, you’ll lead and coordinate landside, shipside and yard activities to keep our world‑class container terminal running safely, efficiently and seamlessly. You’ll be the central link between real‑time operations, commercial priorities and the wider port ecosystem—ensuring every move supports productivity, safety and exceptional service delivery. NOTE: This is a full-time on-site position with a full shift pattern, 2-day shifts, 2-night shifts and 4 days off.
How You Will Contribute
1. Record key events each shift and communicate updates to Operations Management.
2. Provide clear leadership to the Control Room team, supporting performance, development and wellbeing while maintaining high standards of communication, teamwork, conduct and safety, and addressing people or operational issues in line with company policies.
3. Ensure all escalation procedures are followed.
4. Use Terminal Operating Systems to control and monitor shipside and landside operations.
5. Liaise with Planners and operational teams to maintain efficient port operations.
6. Communicate via radio, responding promptly to operator calls and resolving issues.
7. Monitor ASC (Automated Stacking Cranes) operations, quay crane performance, and OCR (Optical camera recognition) accuracy to ensure safe, efficient workflow.
8. Work closely with the Shift Manager to minimise operational disruption.
9. Log and relay machinery faults clearly to Engineering.
10. Interpret instructions quickly and accurately, ensuring smooth execution.
11. Maintain strong knowledge of Control Room and Terminal operating procedures.
12. Manage yard planning and container strategy, ensuring optimal stacking, separation, and flow through the terminal.
13. Monitor vessel work programmes and adjust based on real‑time resource availability.
What You Will Bring
14. Strong background in port, terminal, logistics, or fast‑paced operational environments (Desirable).
15. Confident using Terminal Operating Systems and technology to monitor, control, and optimise operations (Desirable).
16. Proven ability to manage real‑time operational decision‑making under pressure.
17. Effective communicator with experience using radio, phone and digital channels to coordinate teams.
18. Skilled in interpreting live operational data and adjusting plans to maintain flow and productivity.
19. Experience in incident escalation, reporting faults, and ensuring accurate shift documentation.
20. Proactive, reliable, and committed to continuous improvement.
21. Strong team player with the ability to influence others and maintain positive working relationships.
