PMLD Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEND School, Wakefield Temporary role with potential to become permanent Support children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and make a real difference! Leader Education are seeking compassionate and adaptable PMLD Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEND school in Wakefield. The school supports pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, including complex physical, medical, and sensory needs. This is a hands-on, rewarding role where you will work closely with pupils throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop independence, and engage with their environment. Support may involve 1:1 assistance, small group work, personal care, and use of specialist equipment, depending on the needs of each child. These positions are temporary initially, with a real opportunity to move into a permanent role for candidates who demonstrate commitment, reliability, and a strong fit within the school. What You’ll Do Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD Assist with personal care, mobility, and daily routines as required Support pupils to engage in learning, develop life skills, and participate in sensory activities Adapt your approach daily to meet the unique needs of each pupil Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure holistic development Who We’re Looking For Previous experience with PMLD or complex SEND is desirable but not essential Patient, empathetic, adaptable, and committed to supporting children with additional needs Candidates from care, health and social care, youth work, or related fields are encouraged to apply Comfortable working as part of a team and following guidance from teachers and therapists What We Offer Temporary role with potential to become permanent Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement Access to SEND and behaviour management training, including Team Teach Full AWR compliance for fair pay and working conditions Safer Recruitment & DBS All candidates are required to complete Leader Education’s vetting process.
