Overview
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub is delighted to offer a Lead GPN post in the Training Hub. The successful GPN will benefit from training and development opportunities whilst delivering day to day and strategic lead nurse activities to support the practices and PCNs of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The role includes engaging with senior Nursing leads at NHSE and across the region, particularly with other Regional Training Hub Lead Nurses, and representation of Primary Care within the ICS Nursing and Midwifery Faculty.
The role combines workforce planning, education and representation for General Practice Nursing. The team includes ambassadors from other professions to promote multi-professional learning. The hours are negotiable between 22.5 and 37.5 hours per week. The position is hybrid and requires travel across both counties as required.
Main duties
* Work with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub to shape ongoing development for Nursing teams within Primary Care.
* Utilise Midlands GPN scoping report and other local surveys, reports, and intelligence to develop training programs, forums and activities that support nursing teams in practice.
* Lead the Training Hub nursing team and act as an ambassador for Primary Care Nursing.
* Deliver training appropriate to own qualifications and expertise; join the Training Hub Leadership team to share innovation and insight.
* Work to an academic level 7, ensuring project outputs meet evidenced-based standards; contribute to the knowledge base to support all Primary Care Nurses.
* Share best practice gained through networking and project delivery with NHSE leads and wider partners, contributing to the 10-year NHS plan.
* Support workforce planning discussions and requirements including supporting student placements to encourage pipeline expansion.
* Provide leadership and represent General Practice Nursing at regional and national levels as appropriate with support from the Chief Training Hub Officer.
* Direct line management responsibilities for the Nurse Associate Ambassador role in the Training Hub.

Job responsibilities
* Be the Training Hub strategic lead and subject matter expert for nursing across Primary Care in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
* Support the development of networks and forums to promote peer learning and development for Primary Care Nursing in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
* Lead the GPN workforce agenda within the context of national policy and deliver objectives aligned to workforce transformation priorities as defined by NHSE and ICB in collaboration with local system colleagues.
* Collaborate with GP practice teams and Primary Care Networks to negotiate new provision of practice placements and facilitate structured learning.
* Engage with key groups and stakeholders to host events and ensure effective local engagement in line with NHSE culture.
* Improve quality of education and training; manage learning environments, expand pre-reg placements, work experience and supervision/assessment in primary and community care.
* Maintain awareness of national and local professional issues in pre-registration nurse education, including mentoring and coaching and development of non-registered staff.
* Use diverse teaching strategies to promote learning, including bespoke training packages and sourcing external training to meet Training Hub standards.
* Promote a supportive learning environment with signposting to educational resources.
* Demonstrate broad clinical knowledge and skills in General Practice nursing where appropriate.
* Act as a positive role model for nursing across the system, promoting collaborative, patient-centred care and whole-system thinking.
* Attend local, regional and national GPN and Training Hub meetings to share learning and maintain best-practice standards across the ICS.
* Collaborate with providers to capture innovation and develop best practice for national and local conversations.
* Contribute to programs and projects and support the development of Training Hub educational resources for learners across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
* Represent the Training Hub and partner with higher education institutions supporting learners in the region.
* Work with other Training Hub educators/ambassadors to promote multi-professional learning opportunities.
* Support bid writing and sourcing opportunities to enhance nurse education and development.
Qualifications and experience
* First level nursing qualification; 1st degree in a health-related subject; Masters qualification or equivalent experience.
* Desirable: Nurse Assessor/Supervisor; Teaching qualification.
* Recent Practice Nurse experience and broad NHS clinical skills education and workforce development experience.
* Experience of managing a workforce development role and teaching clinical skills.
