Overview

DSFS Ltd are recruiting for the role of Lead Theatre Porter. The post holder will be part of the multidisciplinary team within the Operating Department, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the department. Responsibilities include facilitating timely movement of patients between wards and the Operating Department, and assisting with movement and maintenance of equipment and materials within the department and the hospital.


Key responsibilities

* Collect blood as and when required.
* Review the team rota daily to ensure correct and safe staffing levels and appropriate skills mix.
* Manage day-to-day leave and absence, including return-to-work interviews up to stage 1 and 2 absence reviews.
* Actively manage staffing, workforce planning, recruitment needs, and succession planning in cooperation with the facilities manager and Theatre Matron.
* Participate in recruitment, workforce planning, and staff support for the ODO Team.
* Ensure a nominated Team Leader is available to cover absences and clearly understand their responsibilities.
* Monitor, action, investigate, and implement changes from Datix Reports.
* Continuously review the service to identify improvements in quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
* Represent the ODO Team at the Theatre Workforce Meeting and other relevant meetings.

Requirements

Qualification and training

* Essential: Educated to GCSE standard in English and Maths or equivalent.
* Essential: Management qualification (ILM/NVQ or equivalent) or willingness to work towards.
* Desirable: Health and Safety qualification (IOSH/NEBOSH).
* Desirable: Lifting and Handling; ECDL/CLAIT.

Experience

* Essential: Experience of change management and decision making.
* Essential: Experience of managing a team; task prioritisation and allocation.
* Essential: Hospital background; Portering/Theatres experience.
* Desirable: Conducting appraisals; absence control interviews; management experience.

Skills and knowledge

* Good communication, prioritisation and initiative; customer care skills.
* PC-literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office; understanding of Portering SOPs and Emergency Action Plan.
* Ability to plan and manage tasks to completion.

Personal attributes

* Confident and assertive; smart appearance; physically fit.
* Ability to work under pressure; self-motivating; ability to demonstrate initiative and prioritise workload.
* Diplomatic, resilient, and able to work with diverse teams; good written and oral communication; integrity; excellent time-keeping.
