Mole Valley District Council is seeking an experienced Exchequer Manager to lead and manage the Council’s Exchequer Team, delivering efficient and high‑quality financial transaction services.
Reporting to the Financial Services Manager, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income and Banking functions. You will ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately and on time, in line with legislation, audit requirements and the Council’s financial regulations.
This is a key role within Financial Services, requiring strong leadership skills, attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
* Managing, motivating and developing the Exchequer Team
* Overseeing creditor, debtor, income and cashiering functions
* Ensuring bank, control account and system reconciliations are completed accurately and promptly
* Monitoring and improving payment and debt recovery processes
* Supporting month‑end and year‑end processes and audit requirements
* Working closely with finance colleagues, systems teams and service managers
* Contributing to financial system development and reporting
* Deputising for the Financial Services Manager when required
What we’re looking for
You will be an organised and confident finance professional with experience managing people and complex financial processes.
You must have
* Experience of managing an exchequer or finance team
* Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and income processes
* Experience of working in a financial accounting environment
* Excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills
* A high standard of numeracy and accuracy
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Experience in local government and knowledge of local authority financial systems would be an advantage.
