Chief Operating Officer
New Town Partnership is working with an investment management firm to appoint a Chief Operating Officer. This is a Board-level role reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team within the firm. The role is an FCA Approved Person role.
This role does require you be based or relocate fully to the Edinburgh/Lothians area of Scotland.
The COO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm, including the ongoing strategy for growth and development. This role will have several direct reports from a variety of functions within the firm, chairing several steering and operating committees, liaising with the Board and CEO on operational matters within the firm.
Key responsibilities are outlined below, but it is important to emphasise that this role is, by its nature, diverse and varied. You must have a strong professional track record in Operations within the Investment Management sector. You will be expected to work autonomously, providing strong leadership, offering operational excellence and professionalism. You will have a high degree of emotional intelligence and a motivational and empowering style with prior management experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and oversight of the firm’s operating model. In the short term, this will require a level of change/transformation projects.
* Delivery of the operational initiatives in the firm’s business plan.
* Management of the firm’s relationships with outsourced partners and other third parties.
* Oversight and resolution of all operational issues.
* Provision of all necessary management information to the CEO on a regular basis.
* Regular liaison with all senior management to ensure the smooth running of the firm’s operations.
* Oversight of the firm’s operational resilience and business continuity plans.
* Review end-to-end processes to ensure continued efficiency, including identification of opportunities from technological advances where these are appropriate.
* Ensuring the firm harnesses the full value of its data.
* Lead significant ad-hoc projects as required.
* Understand key regulatory changes and their impact for the firm.
* Identify potential risk areas and put in place appropriate controls.
The ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships will be vital to the success of this role.
Candidate Requirements
* A drive for excellence in all that you do and be comfortable delivering work yourself not merely sitting as an overseer.
* Proven track record in Investment Management Operations.
* High degree of financial literacy or accountancy qualification.
* Client-focused and commercially astute in your outlook.
* Prior budgetary responsibility and ability to driving cost efficiencies.
* Understanding of relevant FCA regulatory requirements.
* Exceptional communication, presentation and influencing skills. Demonstrating personal integrity without ego. You have vision and take people with you.
* Creative in your outlook with a problem-solving mentality that looks for the most effective way to deliver operational Excellence.
* You enjoy coaching and developing others.
