About Us:
St Paul’s, Wordsworth Avenue is a diverse, family friendly, Church of England church situated at the heart of Parson Cross, Sheffield. Through our Foodbank we support people encountering food poverty by providing food parcels and expert advice through Citizens Advice and Shelter. We also provide a range of mid-week clubs and activities including:
JOY (Joining Old and Young), an intergenerational club that brings together parents/carers and their babies/toddlers with the older people in our
community. Activities include creative play, storytelling and a warm lunch
JAM (Jesus and Me), an after-school club for the children in our community
Youth Club for the young people in our community
Coffee Drop-In, providing a warm space and welcome to all with free drinks and snacks, enabling people to make new friends
St Paul’s has two buildings – a hall built in 1949 and, separate from the hall, the church itself, built in 1959. The church was designed by Sir Basil Spence and is listed Grade II. Our hall is showing definite signs of age and our church is in need of re-imagining, so that it might better serve the needs of future generations to come.
What we’re looking for from you:
We are looking for someone who is able to drive this process forward. You will undertake a community audit to ascertain what community provision is available locally, and the view of local people, community groups, churches, development organisations, schools and congregation members about the future role of St Paul’s within its community. From this you will develop a Statement of Needs and Significance, engaging actively with Sheffield Diocese and members of the church.
This work will inform the future mission activities and design of our church. You will then manage a process that will result in the appointment of an architect and the development of a feasibility study. Throughout, you will build an awareness of external funding opportunities and make applications that will support the ongoing costs of the development process.
We anticipate that you will have knowledge, skills and experience of community development and fundraising, along with being an excellent verbal and written communicator.
You will ensure that all fundraising is consistent with our goals and values, ensuring a professional presentation of the church to all parties and funding sources, whilst adhering to best practice in fundraising.
