Post No. POSN003820 - Seasonal Play Worker Specialist Playscheme Playworkers - Summer Playsheme 2026 Are you enthusiastic, experienced and interested in working with children and young people with complex care needs? Then this is an exciting opportunity for you to join an established team and to be part of running our summer playscheme, supporting children with complex disabilities to have fun in a safe and non-judgmental environment. We are currently seeking to appoint a number of seasonal specialist Playworkers to join the Disabled Children's Team of Newport City Council. We are looking for individuals who have experience of supporting and working with children with disabilities such as in schools, playschemes, clubs, or as personal assistants. Summer Playscheme is a closed access provision for children and young people with identified complex care needs. We require staff to support these children and young people on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis to access and enjoy stimulating and varied play opportunities whilst meeting their individual care needs. You may be required to assist with, and be responsible for, all their care needs including, personal hygiene, enteral feeding, personal care (toileting, feeding), communication (Makaton / PECS) emotional regulation, and seizures. We recognise the significance and the value of play in children's development and their innate desire to seek out opportunities as part of their play and learning. As a Specialist Playworker you will need to be creative and patient to support our children to explore themselves and their surroundings. This involves both indoor and outdoor activities, so you should be willing to work with the natural elements, get messy and generally ensure that the children have fun. In addition to this you will be responsible for overseeing the general day to day organisation (setting up, cleaning up) of the playscheme to the required standard. The Complex Playscheme is held at Llanwern High School and runs from Monday to Friday. You will need to be fully available from Monday 27th July - Friday 21st August 2026. There will be a training week prior to the Playscheme starting Monday 20th July 2026. Attendance is mandatory. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Council posts and associated pay are subject to the outcome of an on-going Pay & Grading Review.
