Overview The Senior Event Manager will oversee day-to-day operations of the EU third-party event portfolio and utilise their event marketing, communications, project management and collaboration skills to plan and execute field events across various geographies and ensure that the Field Events Team and all stakeholders are working together to deliver customer focused high-quality events. You will have a deep understanding of event strategy and varying requirements for European countries, proven success in planning and executing both live and virtual third-party events, solid project and people management skills, strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal, written communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to learn unaided. The Senior Event Manager will not only own a multitude of events but also lead the EU field Events Team in working closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand, define, coordinate, and project manage all deliverables, timelines, and milestones associated with tradeshows and other events. This includes workback schedules, marketing strategy, workflow and approvals, managing the event onsite, and providing analytics, reporting and feedback. Event Managers are the facilitators and conduit between many teams to create visibility, cohesiveness and consistency in planning and executing tradeshows and events across all Avalara brands and solutions. The Senior Event Manager provides ongoing guidance, facilitates problem solving, and acts as the “glue” that ties groups together to execute a complex event program aligned with marketing and corporate objectives. Responsibilities Plan and execute third party events from start to finish Wide ranging experience of project set up and delivery of exhibitions within the UK and EU, and other geographies Manage budget, timelines, deliverables, vendors, invoicing, contracting, logistics and reporting Create workspaces and campaigns for planning and reporting on collaborative solutions including SalesForce, Atlassian, Jira, Miro, WorkFront Lead cross functional team in planning and execution of overall event strategy and marketing campaign through cadence meetings Evaluate and mitigate risk associated with each event by working with legal department and vendors Travel for and manage events and staff on-site Track and analyze event spend and performance based on given KPIs and report back to Channel Leader and stakeholders Develop a keen understanding of the EU third-party event program and strategy to facilitate budgeting process, data analysis and reporting, and make recommendations on event portfolio Assist Channel Leader in defining the EU third-party event strategy and budget and manage day-to-day operation for long-term business impact. Optimize effectiveness, and provide improvement recommendations Know and own the event KPIs and data to advise Audience Managers, Partner Marketing Managers and stakeholders on the fit of the event to their marketing strategy and objectives Identify and analyze event KPIs for all EU third-party events and report program performance to Channel Leader and stakeholders Facilitate the set-up tools and workspaces for reporting and budgeting, drive the implementation of new processes Build extensive product knowledge and stay in tune with industry, product, partners, and competitors to make recommendations on new events Continuously evaluate EU third-party event program, industry developments and trends and test new marketing activities to make real time adjustments to maximize event performance Be an integral part of a close-knit team and manage day-to-day department operations and projects Lead the EU Field Event Team in day-to-day operations, train junior/new team members Manage continuous clean-up of campaign data and maintenance of workspace content Communicate department and program performance to Channel Leader and other stakeholders Become a power user for lead management solution, exhibit asset management solution, campaign management tools Consistently evaluate and improve current processes Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and coordinate activities of team members Qualifications Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams in the planning and execution of large-scale events Demonstrated success in executing events in the UK and EU countries Ability to manage multiple priorities to execute high quality deliverables and finding creative ways to do more with less while staying on budget Confident, self-motivated individual with strong, demonstrable bias for action and curiosity to learn and “figure things out” Bachelor’s degree in marketing, and/or business, or related field Minimum of 8 years event management experience with third party events Excellent verbal and written communications skills Ability to think strategically while also executing tactically and quickly Ability to work well independently and collaborate effectively with a team Must be detail-oriented with the ability to prioritise Ability to manage tons of projects at once and meet timelines and goals Ability to proactively address issues at shows on site – proven problem-solving skills Strong diplomacy skills and the ability to build consensus within teams Experience sourcing, onboarding and managing multiple vendors Positive attitude Working knowledge of MS Office, Salesforce, and other CRM applications Ability to ride the constant flow of change Mover and a shaker, not an order taker Preferred Qualifications CTSM, CMP or CPP certification Salesforce and Tableau experience Experience in the tech industry – Tech savvy Channel experience Multilingual is beneficial About Avalara About Avalara: We’re building cloud-based tax compliance solutions to handle every transaction in the world.
