CORPORATE PROJECT MANAGER - GRADE 12

An opportunity has arisen for the post of Corporate Project Manager to join the Design / Construction Project Management Team. This role plays a critical part in delivering the Council’s capital investment programme, transforming community facilities and public spaces across the borough.

The postholder will report to a Senior Project Delivery Manager and will be part of a multidisciplinary team of construction and property professionals delivering the Council’s capital investment programme. The role provides a varied portfolio of non‑education capital projects, including care homes, public realm schemes, demolitions and other complex property and infrastructure projects that contribute directly to community outcomes.

You will take responsibility for the planning and delivery of capital projects as dictated by workload, producing coordinated programmes of work, managing consultants and contractors, monitoring progress, risk and performance, and ensuring robust governance and timely reporting. The role involves close liaison with internal client departments, supporting informed decision‑making and successful delivery from project inception through to completion.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a problem solver and strategic thinker, holding an appropriate qualification to HNC/HND level, with membership of a relevant professional body. Candidates working towards a degree or higher professional qualification are encouraged. You will be IT‑literate, with experience of Microsoft Office and project management tools including MS Project, OneDrive, MS Planner and SharePoint. A working knowledge of PRINCE2 or APM project management methodologies would be advantageous.

Key Requirements

The role is stakeholder‑heavy and operates within a high‑profile capital programme. You will regularly engage with elected members, senior officers, external consultants, contractors, partner organisations and the public. Strong communication skills, diplomacy and sound judgement are essential, together with the ability to manage sensitive issues, balance competing priorities and deliver projects to demanding timescales and expectations. The postholder will work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The hours of work are 37 per week and may be worked in accordance with the Council’s flexible working hours scheme. The post will be based within the Corporate Design and Maintenance Team at The Valleys Innovation Centre, Navigation Park, Abercycon, CF45 4SN.
