We are looking to fill an exciting Deputy Director of Resilience role in DWP's Finance Group. If you're our successful applicant, you will be responsible for leading DWP through incidents and emergencies, planning and preparing for disruptions, and leading a large, remote, and diverse team of 80.
We're seeking someone with experience in incident management, emergency response, and improving organisational resilience, along with excellent people management, leadership, and strategic thinking skills.
What you'll be working on:
* Leading the cross-DWP programme to develop and implement a comprehensive operational resilience framework by 2027.
* Owning the Business Continuity, Readiness, and Response policy and driving assurance against that policy and standards.
* Embedding and continuously improving the DWP Business Continuity Management System and ensuring effective implementation of Riskonnect.
* Developing, testing, and exercising DWP's contingency plans for various national security and service-impacting risks.
* Overseeing DWP's role within the cross-government Chronic Risks Programme.
* Collaborating with partners across government to ensure resilience of critical infrastructure.
* Leading DWP's Incident and Crisis Management Framework and the SCS cadre of Gold Commanders.
* Driving improvements in incident and crisis management capabilities through lessons learned.
* Acting as a Gold Commander for major incidents, coordinating responses, and representing DWP in senior officials groups.
* Chairing the Cross-Government Business Continuity Specialism and leading resilience initiatives.
* Leading cross-government resilience projects, including national power outage recovery.
* Representing resilience interests on departmental boards and deputising for the Resilience Director as needed.
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
* Substantial incident management and emergency response experience with proven leadership in crisis situations.
* Exceptional people management and leadership skills, fostering an inclusive, high-performing team environment.
* A strategic mindset with the ability to set and communicate a long-term vision.
* Strong communication skills with experience translating strategy into operational plans.
* High emotional intelligence, organisational skills, and adaptability in dynamic environments.
* Analytical skills with experience in complex issue evaluation and providing clear recommendations.
Desirable criteria include membership of the Business Continuity Institute, completion of Crisis Management training, and knowledge of automated BC systems.
