Job Overview

Do you want to be part of an established, warm, welcoming child and family centred ward team? We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker to join Glan Clwyd's Neonatal Unit. As a department we offer a range of services to children and families and constantly seek ways to develop our service. This is an exciting opportunity for those wishing to learn and develop skills in a supportive environment.


Main duties of the job

Assist the registered nursing practitioner and work within a multidisciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specialist neonatal care, ensuring a family‑centred care approach. Organise, prioritise and adjust unsupervised care to a defined caseload of babies within the Neonatal Unit. Maintain high standards of neonatal care in a safe environment, develop neonatal knowledge, skills and competencies through training whilst adhering to BCUHB’s policies and protocols, and communicate and document effectively at all times within the multidisciplinary team. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Be accountable for own actions or omissions and understand your role, boundaries and limitations. Understand unit policies, protocols and procedures, and report to a qualified practitioner any deviation in a baby’s condition. Communicate effectively and professionally with the multidisciplinary team, handle safeguarding and data‑governance issues, advise parents and carers on parenting skills and health promotion, manage general enquiries using independent judgement, document neonatal care using computerized systems, and plan, deliver and evaluate care for a defined caseload of babies. The post holder may care for up to four babies who may be oxygen dependent, have congenital abnormalities and require gastric tube feeding. Essential criteria

* Ability to work under supervision; Communicate and receive information effectively; Listen and communicate with clarity; Work autonomously and as part of a team; Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete records; Maintain accurate records; Build therapeutic relationships with this service user group; Successfully carry out wound management, baseline observation and growth measurements; Participate in clinical supervision; Fitness and ability to undertake physical intervention training.

* Experience required to fulfil the post; Previous experience within a ward setting with a neonatal background.
