In Vivo Research Scientist
A leading research organisation is seeking an experienced Research Scientist (In Vivo) to support complex in vivo studies within a regulated research environment.
The Role
You will play a key role in the execution of in vivo studies, performing a broad range of procedures while supporting data quality, regulatory compliance, and the development of junior team members. Working closely with scientific and technical teams, you will contribute to study delivery from in-life phases through to reporting.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform a wide range of in vivo techniques, from routine dosing and clinical observations to surgical procedures including anaesthesia, analgesia, suturing, and PDX models
* Develop and apply more advanced techniques, including complex tissue collection
* Monitor animal health and welfare, identifying early signs of ill health and implementing appropriate interventions
* Work in full compliance with UK Home Office legislation, including ASPA, establishment licences, and project licences
* Support a strong culture of care and contribute to 3Rs initiatives where appropriate
* Generate high-quality scientific data and contribute to study reports for Study Directors
* Support training, mentoring, and quality control activities for junior team members
* Maintain accurate records for scientific, regulatory, and welfare purposes
* Contribute to SOP review, process improvements, and day-to-day unit organisation
Skills & Experience
* Strong practical expertise in in vivo animal handling, husbandry, welfare assessment, and surgical techniques
* Experience with oncology models is highly desirable
* Sound understanding of ASPA and licensed procedures
* Confident with aseptic techniques and high-quality data generation
* Comfortable using MS Office and electronic laboratory or LIMS systems
* Able to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines
* Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
* Effective communicator with the ability to support and mentor others
Education & Licensing
* A-levels, BTEC, IAT qualifications, or equivalent training preferred
* Personal Licence Holder (Modules A–C)
* Relevant hands-on experience within a regulated in vivo research setting
