Overview
Multidisciplinary Team Leader (Therapist) – St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role is within the Douglas Bader Amputee Rehabilitation Service, a nationally recognised centre of excellence providing inpatient and outpatient care for patients of all ages with limb absence. The post holder will deliver a high-quality, responsive multidisciplinary rehabilitation service in collaboration with specialist teams across the centre.
The post-holder will provide expert, evidence-based amputee rehabilitation advice to clinics and therapists nationally and internationally, lead the organisation of local and national educational programmes, and support health and fitness initiatives at the onsite Bader gym. The role encompasses leadership, management, education, research, and a commitment to patient-centred service development.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure clinical standards are maintained within the amputee rehabilitation therapy services.
* Work autonomously to assess a complex caseload and develop specialised individual treatment programmes.
* Support and guide staff in clinical decision-making, particularly for clients with complex or challenging needs.
* Maintain and develop comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of amputee rehabilitation and management.
* Promote the amputee rehabilitation service through liaison with referrers and visits to other hospitals.
* Collaborate with service leads and users to evaluate, develop, and improve service delivery continuously.
* Lead service modernisation initiatives in partnership with the Head of Therapies, service users, other rehabilitation services, social services, and commissioners.
* Provide leadership to the therapy team, supporting high-quality, patient-centred multidisciplinary care.
* Review and participate in educational programmes for clinicians, ensuring they reflect current evidence-based practice.
* Manage budget and rostering responsibilities effectively.
Job Description & Roles
To provide a high quality, responsive Multidisciplinary rehabilitation service for people with limb loss of all ages, either as in-patients in Gwynne Holford ward, or as outpatients. To work in partnership with other specialist rehabilitation services based on site to ensure delivery of patient-focused care. To ensure expert advice is available to clinics and clinicians within the centre, and to other Therapists nationally and internationally. To organise and run multidisciplinary educational programmes both on and off site. To provide health and fitness programmes in the Douglas Bader Centre, a purpose-built gym and fitness facility for people with and without disabilities. To ensure a patient-focused approach is embedded within all aspects of service development and delivery.
Qualifications
Essential
* HCPC registered Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist
* Postgraduate qualifications to Master’s level or equivalent
Desirable
* Membership in relevant clinical/specialist groups
* Training in leadership/management
Experience
Essential
* Extensive postgraduate experience including 2 years as a specialist OT/PT in relevant field
* Experience managing staff and change
* Experience with CPD, PDP, and clinical supervision

* Budget management experience

* In-depth understanding of rehabilitation needs and service delivery
* Knowledge of national/local healthcare strategies and Clinical Governance
