Senior Waste and Decommissioning Consultant - Full Time / Part Time, Derby

AtkinsRéalis Nuclear has been operating for over 40 years with operations based in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America, and are fully engaged in the development of the next generation of nuclear power. AtkinsRéalis is currently embarking on an exciting journey to become the global leader in Reactor Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Management Services.

It’s a stimulating time for the decommissioning sector, with increased responsibility and investment in the safe dismantling and disposal of aging nuclear reactors and management of the UK’s nuclear legacy wastes.

Our Reactor Operations and Decommissioning team, based at Bristol, Warrington, and Glasgow, is a diverse group of engineers and scientists well-placed geographically to meet these challenges, including the ongoing decommissioning of the Scottish reactor fleet.

Due to continued growth, we are recruiting experienced engineers and scientists as Senior Waste and Decommissioning Consultants. The position is flexible across the UK with hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities:

* Collaborate on technical projects with clients, solving challenges in radioactive waste management and decommissioning, with knowledge of the waste management lifecycle.
* Utilize and adapt technology to enhance decommissioning and waste management, including radiological dose modeling, radionuclide characterization, automation, robotics, and other nuclear waste technologies.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of waste strategies, environmental permitting, and assessment requirements.
* Identify opportunities for business change towards Net Zero, including waste management planning and land remediation.
* Support business development through bids, proposals, and technical contributions.
* Engage globally with team members, sharing knowledge and building networks for complex projects.
* Leverage waste characterization knowledge to influence project delivery and promote careers in Net Zero initiatives.
* Ensure project delivery within scope, budget, and timeline.
* Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior staff.
* Maintain strong client relationships and effective communication.


Requirements:

* Degree in science (chemistry, physics, environmental sciences) or engineering (chemical, mechanical, process), or significant relevant experience.
* Relevant experience in related fields; nuclear or radiation experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
* Experience working with teams and clients.
* Strong written English skills for technical reports.
* Flexibility to travel and work at client sites.
* Motivated, proactive, and effective communicator.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships.
* Security clearance eligibility in the UK.
* Chartered status from a professional body is desirable.
* Knowledge of nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management.
* Project management or leadership experience is beneficial.
* On-site nuclear experience and bid writing skills are desirable.
