Role: Learning Support Assistant (SEN)
Location: Farnborough and Aldershot campuses
Hours: Full‑Time / Part‑Time options
Pay: £13.75 per hour

About the pupils and setting

An expanding special needs school caters for children and young people aged 2 to 19 who all have complex learning difficulties, including but not limited to:

* Severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)

* Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

* Language disorders, sensory impairments, physical disabilities (The Good Schools Guide )

The school provides a highly structured, supportive, multi‑disciplinary environment. There is a strong focus on communication, independence, emotional regulation, physical development, and personalised learning using specialist strategies (for example PECS, TEACCH, sensory integration etc.). Main Responsibilities

* Assist pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to access learning activities and support the implementation of Individual Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs).

* Support with personal care, mobility and physical needs as required.

* Help pupils manage sensory and emotional needs; support behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.

* Aid pupils’ communication development, using specialist tools, visual supports, augmentative communication where necessary.

* Work closely with teachers, therapists (speech & language, occupational, physical) and other staff to adapt resources and support consistent progress.

* Maintain records of pupil progress and support, feeding back to the class teacher or relevant staff.

* Participate in training and professional development to sharpen skills in SEND‑specific approaches.

* Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, or a strong desire to develop in this field.

* Patience, empathy, flexibility, emotional resilience.

* Good communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.

* Willingness to work as part of a team but also take initiative.

* Comfortable with supporting physical, medical or mobility needs as appropriate.

* A positive attitude to learning new strategies and adapting their practice.

Requirements

* Must have a DBS check on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.

* Right to work in the UK.

* Relevant training or willingness to undertake training in areas such as safeguarding, manual handling, communication strategies, medical/physical care etc.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
