Subject Leader for English – Full Time, Permanent
MPS + TLR depending on experience.
Required for September 2025
Welcome to Hadley Learning Community!
We are a school that proudly serves and sits at the heart of the local community of Hadley in Telford. Our vision is that every child belongs to our school and community, respecting others and importantly themselves. We believe that their hard work and dedication inspire others and bring success in all their endeavours. Furthermore, we strive to ensure every child enjoys their learning, friendships, and opportunities at Hadley Learning Community.
Our recent Ofsted report in June 2022 celebrated our “high expectations for pupils’ behaviour” within “a highly ambitious and inclusive curriculum”. They concluded that “the school could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a section 5 inspection now”.
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader of our English department; someone who can inspire our learners to have a passion for English. English is at the heart of our ambitious curriculum and a key area for development within the school. We aim to appoint a leader who will be instrumental in further shaping and enhancing the position of the subject within the school.
The appointment will need to be an energetic, innovative, and inspiring teacher who can lead a team of staff forwards to further improve outcomes in English. It is a fantastic opportunity to join the English team that has excelled in many areas. The department is built on solid foundations and is going from strength to strength, with outcomes now broadly in line with national data. This post is suitable for both experienced leaders and proven teachers who want to take the next steps in their career. We would also consider additional whole-school responsibilities to support the right candidate’s career development.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious, and energetic individual to lead one of the most important subject areas. Our school is one of the best in the country, and we seek someone eager to work at that level to drive languages forwards.
We pride ourselves on:
* Our recent OFSTED inspection being graded as ‘good plus’ (June 2022). Key findings include:
o “Leaders are acutely aware of staff well-being and workload. The vast majority of staff feel well supported both personally and professionally. Staff appreciate the time they are given to work together in departments to plan and evaluate the curriculum. Staff are highly supportive of leaders and proud to work at the school.”
o “There is a calm and orderly environment. Pupils are polite and respectful to staff and visitors. Bullying is extremely rare, and pupils have full confidence in staff to deal with any issues that arise.”
o “Teachers have high expectations for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).”
* Being an oversubscribed and popular school, located close to the M54 and M6, with easy access to Birmingham, Staffordshire, Shrewsbury, and Wales.
* Being a highly innovative, driven, inspirational, and ambitious organisation with a clear vision for success.
* Being part of the Learning Community Trust, which offers collaboration opportunities, effective CPD, and professional development. The Trust is committed to investing in and developing staff to achieve the best outcomes for students.
