We’re building a pioneering team that’s redefining how the UK’s largest building society leverages SAP technology to power its core banking systems. This isn’t just about SAP, it’s about blending cutting‑edge DevOps practices, continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and automation with SAP’s enterprise‑grade capabilities to create a modern, resilient platform.
If you have a proven track record in leading the delivery of DevOps solutions – especially with operating systems like RHEL as well as Ansible and Github – your expertise is exactly what we need. You’ll bring fresh ideas, challenge the status quo, and help us deliver a capability that combines the best of both worlds: modern engineering and SAP excellence.
No SAP experience? No problem – your skills in automation and pipeline engineering will drive the future of our transformation.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you’ll be located at our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. This is anticipated to be once a month in Swindon.
What you’ll be doing
As a lead on our SAP Platform Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our technology landscape. You’ll work hand‑in‑hand with experts in SAP Basis and Security to deliver new capabilities and keep our environments running smoothly. We’ve already made great strides towards a modernised tech stack – automating environment builds with Ansible – and now we’re ready to take it to the next level. That’s where you come in.
You’ll bring your self‑starter mindset to drive small, frequent improvements that make a big difference: automating repeatable tasks, creating scripts to manage environment configurations, and supporting the underlying Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. Your infrastructure expertise will be invaluable as you collaborate with our Infrastructure team to build servers and contribute to technical designs that meet evolving business needs. This is your chance to make a tangible impact, challenge the status quo, and help us push automation and efficiency further than ever before.
You’ll also step into a genuine leadership role – guiding the team, shaping priorities, and empowering engineers to deliver meaningful outcomes. You’ll stay hands‑on enough to provide technical direction and help solve complex challenges, while using your communication skills to influence stakeholders and articulate how our engineering work drives real business value. This is a chance to grow people, uplift engineering standards, and lead a team that’s eager to innovate.
