Overview
Senior Construction Project Manager, EMEA Data Center Construction — AWS EMEA SARL (Italy Branch). This role involves leading and coordinating on data center construction projects, managing General Contractors, and ensuring safety, quality, and compliance across civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, controls and commissioning disciplines. Our data centers focus on energy efficiency and cost-effective designs.
The Senior Construction Project Manager is responsible for managing General Contractors on one or more data center construction sites, including oversight and review of all disciplines and contract administration to ensure full compliance, including all commercial elements.
Responsibilities
* Be based from the MXP site construction offices — act as Amazon’s eyes and ears on the project and our first responder if an issue is identified.
* Travel to other data centers, Amazon offices or vendor premises as required to support the current project or undertake training. Opportunities may also exist for international travel.
* Manage General Contractors on one or more data center construction sites, including oversight and review of all disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, controls and commissioning.
* Uphold AWS’ safety motto: work safe or not at all. Set the local example, raise observations, and work with the GC to achieve high safety standards with zero tolerance for unsafe behaviors.
* Undertake strategic and tactical commercial management of construction contracts, including managing the commercial administration of contracts to ensure compliance.
* Collaborate with general contractors, developers and vendors to deliver efficient and high-quality project handovers.
* Inspect and review construction work including site safety, project quality control, support of the commissioning process and review of submittals and other project documents for compliance with contract documents.
* Review civil, electrical and mechanical designs to create construction project scope for requests for proposal and variations.
* Support negotiations with general contractors and internal procurement partners and evaluate bids/proposals/claims with detail and accuracy.
* Record and report key construction/commercial metrics, including internal schedule, cost and budget reporting and forecasting.
* Lead on analysis and resolution of claims and major variations.
* Be a leader within the group and across internal and external teams that support the data center; mentor, support and develop more junior team members.

Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* 7+ years of recent experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. (Senior Services Manager across schemes in excess of £100 million)
* Understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles including breaker coordination studies, switch-gear sequences, and local electrical codes.
* General contractor and vendor management experience (RFPs, bidding, change orders) associated with construction and project execution.
* 5+ years’ experience in construction of and interface with live operational/mission critical facilities such as data centers, energy plants, industrial facilities, or infrastructure projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* 10+ years in construction site management.
* 3+ years leading the management of a construction contract package.
* Professional certification such as CCM, AC, or CPC.
* Knowledge of industry safety and quality standards and local regulations with experience acting as a client within those regulations.
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.
