Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist with an interest in CRM to join a busy, established Device Service in a friendly Cardiology Department. The role will primarily be based at Heartlands Hospital, part of University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where we perform device implant and follow up including Conduction System Pacing and S‑ICD implant. As a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist you will be BHRS/IBHRE accredited to support all aspects of the CRM Service. You will be responsible for all aspects of device follow up and also required to attend other sites within the Trust to perform device implant and follow up to maintain BHRS/IBHRE accreditation, and to support the Device On Call Service. The role also requires coverage of other diagnostic cardiac physiology tasks such as angiography, exercise tolerance testing and Holter analysis. This full‑time role works 37.5 hours per week across four days, 08.00‑18.00, with occasional support at other Trust sites.
Main Duties & Skills
* Perform highly specialised Cardiac Physiology investigations and interventions, including advanced testing during pacemaker, CRT‑P and ICD/CRT‑D implantation and follow‑up with analysis of highly complex data and diagnostic information.
* Independent prescription and evaluation of device therapy and programming, ensuring individualised device optimisation; take part in an on‑call rota for complex devices as an accredited Band 7 physiologist.
* Conduct a broad range of clinical investigations within the Cardiac Physiology Service, including:
o Performance, analysis and interpretation of resting ECGs, with independent interpretation for Direct Access patients.
o Manage physiologist‑led Exercise Tolerance Testing.
o Holter analysis (including complex pacemakers/implantable devices).
o Cardiac catheterisation (including complex cases).
o Permanent pacemaker and implantable loop recorder implantation and follow‑up.
o Tilt testing (physiologist‑led).
o Provide interpretation and reports of own and others’ investigations, using discretion and judgement to seek further advice or review as necessary within an appropriate timeframe.
* Cross‑site working, including community diagnostic hubs, as dictated by service needs.
Qualifications
* Essential:
o BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent) or Masters in Cardiac Science.
o Highly specialist knowledge of Clinical Physiology in at least one area to Masters level or equivalent (Echocardiography or Devices).
o IBHRE/BHRS accreditation.
o RCCP Registered.
o ILS/ALS Resuscitation certified.
* Desirable:
o Training/Assessor's qualification.
o ASCST/MSCST.
Experience
* Essential:
o Experience and scientific knowledge through formal study, training and practice in highly complex and specialised Cardiac investigations.
o Supervisory experience.
o Experience in the use of PCs and data entry.
o Experience with Cardiology IT storage systems.
* Desirable:
o Health and safety knowledge and experience.
o Research experience.

* Familiar with collection of statistical information and audit.
* Awareness of NHS issues impacting Cardiac Physiology.
* Flexible and reliable, possible 7‑day working, able to work cross‑site or at community diagnostic hubs.

Salary & Contract
Band 7, £49,387.00 to £56,515.00 per year (Agenda for Change). Permanent contract, full‑time, flexible working pattern.
