Mechanical Engineer (Senior, Principal, Senior Principal or Experienced) - Hydropower
Overview
Stantec is a leading consultancy working on many of the world’s largest and most exciting dams and hydro projects. We are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. Projects include Coire Glas (Scotland), Koysha (Ethiopia), and Dinorwig (Wales). Our mechanical engineers contribute to the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of outline and detailed designs to support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary design group with clients to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical design, and liaise with other disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages.
* Develop cost-effective, innovative mechanical design solutions that meet client requirements and project constraints.
* Produce outline and detailed designs to support project delivery, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Support projects across Stantec’s hydropower, water and thermal sectors as needed.
About You
* Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred or working towards.
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience in the design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
* Experience with rotating machinery.
* Knowledge and skills in planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for energy projects.
* Competent user of 3D modelling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD), experience in BIM, and experience with hydropower applications is preferred.
* Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection; familiarity with balance of plant and related systems (e.g., HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services) is advantageous.
