Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse (Endoscopy)

An exciting new opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our busy Endoscopy team, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Our Endoscopy Service is purpose-built to support elective outpatient and acute inpatient Endoscopic procedures, with facilities to undertake x-ray guided endoscopy.

The ideal candidate will have NMC registration, two years post-registration Endoscopy experience, knowledge of JAG and BSG guidelines, along with a high level of verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of quality improvement, and principles of change management.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to work in accordance with the NMC Code, the Trust's vision and values, and our Behavioural Framework.
Your main responsibilities will include working as a senior member of the nurse team alongside Staff Nurses, Nurse Associates, Healthcare Assistants, Endoscopists, Consultants, and speciality nursing teams, delivering high-level care to patients in all areas of the Unit. This requires a high level of technical capability with a passion for problem-solving. This role can be physically and mentally demanding but is very rewarding for the right candidate.
Duties include:
* Providing leadership support to colleagues
* Ensuring staffing levels and skill mix to ensure the safe delivery of care, and maintaining patient safety at all times
* Coordinating clinical activities, staff allocation, and managing patient flow within the department
* Shift management responsibilities - taking direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of, or as delegated by, the Senior Endoscopy Sister
* Carrying out appraisals and development reviews for team members
* Managing sickness absence
* Complaint management and incident reporting reviews
* Completing audits
* Participating in recruitment, selection, and training of new staff
* Participation and training in the 24-hour on-call bleed rota

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register
* Health care management/leadership qualification
Experience
* Substantial post-registration experience working in Endoscopy within an acute NHS setting
* Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge, supplemented by specialist training and CPD
* Willingness to act as a practice-based supervisor/assessor as per NMC standards
* A professional portfolio demonstrating CPD and maintenance of registration
* Recent clinical experience in the speciality/acute care, including supervision/education of junior staff
* Experience mentoring undergraduate students
* Ability to lead and coordinate shifts or departmental areas
* Experience learning from incidents and complaints, supporting practice changes
* Passion and ability in leadership, team building, resource management, clinical governance, audit, research, workforce planning, and NHS policy awareness
* Further learning in Gastroenterology or Endoscopy is desirable
