Job summary

We are looking for an empathetic, caring, enthusiastic and motivated individual. You need to be able to organise yourself and others, to co-ordinate a wide range of tasks within tight timescales, to work under pressure and show initiative. You will play an important role in the effective organisation and coordination of the Bereavement Service.

Bereavement Services are the team who work alongside the Medical Examiners team to arrange for the Medical Cause of Death Certificates for our deceased patients to be completed. Bereavement Services speak to and liaise with bereaved relatives and co-ordinate with the Medical Examiners team, the mortuary team, the Coroner's Office, funeral directors and Registrars. As a member of the team you must be computer literate, used to working on the telephone, able to listen and support the bereaved, as well as your colleagues.

You will need to be flexible, as you may need to travel to one of the other sites at short notice to cover the service.

This is a full time role based at the William Harvey Hospital and the hours are Monday to Friday 08.30-16.30pm.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a compassionate and understanding service to bereaved families, offering help, support and information, to ensure understanding of the administration process and working to provide the Medical Cause of Death Certificate for our deceased patients.

The role also includes ensuring deceased's property is recorded, safely stored and returned to the families, carers or legal representatives.

Person Specification


Experience

Essential:

* Experience in a customer services role.
* Experience in dealing with members of the public in various situations.
* Inputting client information on to a database in order to provide reports.
* Ability to work with people in stressful or difficult situations and be equipped to manage such challenges

Desirable:

* Experience in working within end of life services e.g. funeral directors, mortuary etc.
* Recent NHS experience in a customer services role e.g. GP reception.
* Experience working with databases for records management


Skills

Essential:

* Problem solving skills. Excellent keyboard skills, and proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office package, particularly Word and Excel.
* Ability to work with people in stressful or difficult situations and be equipped to manage such challenges.
* Good written and verbal communication skills, able to accurately listen to or read an event to record and respond appropriately Influencing skills.


Knowledge

Essential:

* An understanding of the regulatory processes after death.


Qualifications

Essential:

* NVQ3 or Five GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English Language.
