We are now seeking a Data Engineer Lead to play a key role in shaping data engineering strategy, leading high‑performing teams, and delivering enterprise‑grade data solutions for clients.
Role Purpose
As a Data Engineer Lead, you will be a senior, client‑facing consultant within the Microsoft Data Engineering Practice. You will take ownership of end‑to‑end data engineering engagements, shaping architectural decisions, guiding best practice, and mentoring delivery teams while still remaining hands‑on.
You will help clients design, build, and optimise modern data platforms across Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Databricks, while also providing strategic input around governance, operating models, and long‑term platform adoption.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys strategic influence and leadership, but still values deep technical involvement across data modelling, pipeline development, and analytics engineering.
Core Responsibilities
* Lead the design and delivery of modern data platforms using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Databricks
* Own data engineering architecture decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to best practice
* Act as a technical authority across data modelling, ingestion, transformation, and analytics engineering
* Develop and optimise batch and streaming data pipelines using Spark, SQL, and Python
* Provide hands‑on leadership across multiple delivery teams, setting standards and mentoring junior engineers
* Work closely with clients to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
* Support data governance, quality, and operating model design, ensuring sustainable client outcomes
* Contribute to practice development, including tooling standards, accelerators, and capability growth
* Partner with stakeholders across analytics, AI, and cloud teams to deliver integrated solutions
Role Requirements
Essential
* Proven experience in a senior or lead Data Engineering role within consulting or complex client environments
* Strong expertise across the Microsoft data ecosystem, including: Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks
* Advanced skills in Spark (PySpark), SQL, and data pipeline development
* Strong experience in data modelling, data warehousing, and lakehouse architectures
* Experience leading teams, mentoring engineers, and driving delivery quality
* Comfortable operating in client‑facing, consultative environments
* Strong understanding of data engineering best practices, performance optimisation, and scalability
Desirable
* Experience working across multiple industries or enterprise‑scale programmes
* Exposure to data governance, master data management, or data quality frameworks
* Familiarity with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps patterns in Azure
* Experience working alongside Analytics Engineering, Power BI, or AI/ML teams
* Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g. DP‑203, Fabric certifications)
