Overview
Woodfield School is seeking passionate, resilient and empathetic Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school serves children from Year 1 to Year 11 and is relocating to a new state-of-the-art facility at the old Woodlands site in April 2026, aiming to become one of the largest and most innovative SEMH provisions in the country. The school collaborates with Social Care, Health and Police to provide a multi-agency approach.
What is the job role?
As an LSA, you will work directly with students to provide support, encouragement and guidance. You will be part of a delivery team alongside lead teachers to create a nurturing, therapeutic and personalised environment that you help design and run.
Responsibilities
* Support and nurture primary or secondary-aged pupils with SEMH difficulties (depending on phase).
* Help children progress socially and academically.
* Work closely with the wider intervention and leadership team and other school staff.
* Build strong relationships with parents and carers; provide feedback on children’s progress and wellbeing.
* Work independently with small groups.
* Support the planning and preparation of engaging activities.
* Build positive relationships with our young people and their families.

Experience and Skills
* Experience of working with children in any setting (schools, care homes, youth work, etc.).
* Good behaviour management skills (or willingness to develop them).
* Understanding of SEMH needs (or desire to learn).
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure.

* No previous school experience? Life experience in care or youth services, mental health settings, or relevant personal experience is valued for a career change.
