The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Buyer to join our Purchasing team on a 12‑month basis, covering Maternity Leave. The postholder will play a pivotal role in driving Procurement activity across the business, negotiating and placing orders for machined components and other direct products to meet project deadlines. You will support the department with new strategies, policies and procedures and become a key stakeholder in the supply chain management process.
Key Duties
* Support the Purchasing team in procuring all materials from the external supply chain
* Ensure procured materials meet quality, delivery and cost targets
* Convert requirements from MRP, BOMs and drawings into receipts of conforming parts
* Request and analyse quotations, select suppliers and negotiate cost reductions
* Organise return of faulty parts and maintain supplier relationships
* Create and maintain supply agreements and develop key suppliers
* Drive quality improvements and compliance within the supply base
* Raise purchase orders, expedit orders and resolve invoice queries with Finance
* Support Engineering, Design and Commercial teams on new projects and cost calculations
* Assist with requests from in‑house mechanical assembly and precision engineering technicians
* Implement purchasing process improvements to increase efficiency
* Carry out any other tasks within the competence of the postholder
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven purchasing experience within an engineering/manufacturing environment
* Understanding of engineering drawings
* Basic understanding of manufacturing processes
* Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
* Experience in ERP/MRP systems
* Contractual and commercial awareness
* Full clean driving licence
