Consultant Ophthalmologist with Interest in Glaucoma
Based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust. The appointee will join the existing team of 12 dedicated Ophthalmologists, with a further 10 Specialty and Specialist doctors. We are looking for someone who is dynamic and enthusiastic with a range of skills to compliment and develop our services. Most outpatient activity takes place in a purpose built dedicated Out-patient Department on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site in Truro. Additional clinics are held in community hospitals around Cornwall. This is an exciting opportunity to use your skills and experience to further develop local services and deliver excellent care, whilst benefiting from Cornwall’s lifestyle. You will have access to two full theatre sessions per week at our brand new theatre site in St Austell. A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and the Clinical Director and consultant colleagues on behalf of the Medical Director based on the needs of the department and the strengths/interests of the individual appointed to ensure we have the flexibility to recruit the very best applicant.
Responsibilities
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Ophthalmology.
* Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Ophthalmology Department with colleagues.
* Teaching and training of junior staff, and opportunity to teach medical students within the University of Exeter Medical School.
* Participation in continuing medical education (CME).
* Provision of a service to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, with responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and proper functioning of the department, with colleagues as appropriate.
* Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
* Responsibilities relating to any special interests.
* Professional supervision of other junior medical staff.
* Carrying out teaching where applicable.
* Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and continuing Professional Development.
* Engagement in research where applicable.
* Work on behalf of the Trust, such as domiciliary consultations or services provided for other agencies where agreed.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
