The Client
Our client is a charity providing counselling training and counselling, operating remotely and face-to-face in locations in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, with its main office in St Albans. They deliver over 20,000 counselling sessions a year and provide training on annual or multi-year courses typically to around 150 students per year.
The Role
They are now looking for a capable and practical person to take responsibility for business compliance support, reporting to the CEO. Although it may evolve, the initial scope of the role encompasses data protection & GDPR, Cyber security policy, company policies, contract templates, insurance and oversight of compliance processes and health & safety.
Key Accountabilities:
Data Protection
Designated Data Protection Officer.
Data protection and GDPR policies, procedures, documentation and consents.
Response to any data protection breach/GDPR incidents.
Data protection agreements with suppliers, subcontractors and other third parties.
Overseeing data subject access and freedom of information requests process.
Caldicott guardian.
Oversee retention policies and their application.
Monitor and enhance GDPR and data protection.
IT Security
IT/Cyber security policies.
Contribute to monitoring, enhancing and raising awareness of IT/Cyber security.
Company Policies
Managing and leading the maintenance and improvement of up-to-date Company Policies (not including the specialist policies for the counselling, clinical, training services or finance) in line with requirements.
Maintenance and improvement of business continuity plan.
Contract Templates
Managing the maintenance and improvement of templates for contracts and related documentation, such as for counselling services, contracts with counsellors and volunteer documentation. Insurance
Insurance policies and management of insurance broker, including annual insurance renewal, managing insurance aspects of any events and overseeing compliance with the terms of insurance policies. Health and Safety
Oversee health and safety policies and first aid obligations, providing management and guidance working with the Health & Safety M anager. Oversight of Processes
Compliance with incident and complaints policies, processes and logs.
Oversight of compliance with (non-service delivery) obligations in contracts with third parties.
Identifying and organising staff training on a cost-effective basis to meet our obligations.
Compliance oversight of DBS and counsellor databases (which may be automated in due course).
Safe recruitment processes.
The Candidate
Prior experience of working in a similar compliance role.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Proactive mindset with a focus on driving positive change.
Ability to review, prepare and improve documentation as required with high level of attention to detail.
Strong people, relationship, communication and interpersonal skills.
Values the importance of compliance, good processes and is aware of governance and risk.
The Terms
12-month contract (with the scope to extend based on business needs).
12-15 hours per week.
Based at the clients office in St Albans.
FTE of £37.5k-£45k pro rata to hours, depending on skills and experience.
