Head of Ecommerce (Web & Stack)
Manchester (hybrid)
• Full-time
• Reports to: Growth Lead
Own the shop. Make it faster, clearer, more profitable. Build the system that compounds.
The role
You'll own the entire ecommerce web stack end-to-end: the Shopify experience, the subscription engine, the CRO programme, the tooling and the economics that sit underneath. Your mandate is to turn traffic into customers, customers into subscribers, and subscribers into profitable repeat buyers—through sharp UX, smart vendor choices, clean data and relentless testing.
This isn't a developer seat or a trading calendar job. It's strategic and hands-on. You'll set the multi-year roadmap for how our digital infrastructure evolves, then roll your sleeves up and ship the improvements that move conversion, AOV and LTV.
About Hairburst:
We sit where beauty meets wellbeing. Haircare built with science, validated in the mirror. Founded with £4k; bought by JD Sports 2021; bought back by founders k+ community. You'll find us in Boots, Superdrug, Holland & Barrett, plus DTC and marketplaces.
What you'll own
Ecommerce strategy & roadmap
→ The vision for how our digital infrastructure evolves. Subscription models, loyalty, payments, personalisation, international expansion. What we build, what we buy, what we bin.
The full tech stack
→ Shopify + everything bolted on. Subscriptions (Recharge/Skio), CRO tools, loyalty, payments, analytics, consent, integrations. You choose the vendors, manage the partnerships, keep it fast and sane.
Site experience & conversion
→ Speed, navigation, PDPs, bundles, checkout, post-purchase. Reduce friction, lift AOV, improve subscription attach. Make every click feel faster and more obvious.
Experimentation programme
→ Hypothesis pipeline, A/B tests, clear reads, winners codified into standards. Test culture, not just running tests.
Data & instrumentation
→ GA4/GTM, event models, pixels, server-side tracking, consent. One dashboard everyone trusts. No more arguments about numbers.
Subscription economics
→ Sign-up flows, swap/skip, save and win-back journeys. Fewer rage cancels, better retention, higher LTV.
Global expansion
→ Consistent performance across markets. Localisation where it actually moves conversion, not just nice-to-have translations.
Vendor selection & management
→ Evaluate, negotiate, implement and optimise the tools that power growth. You build the business case, you make the call.
Your unfair advantage
The Growth Studio:
Brand, creative, performance, CRM, CX, data—all around the same table. Not support. Proper collaborators who help you ship faster and smarter.
* Country GMs set commercial priorities; you give them the infrastructure to win
* Brand ensures everything looks right; you ensure it converts
* Performance drives traffic; you make sure it turns into profit
* Weekly working sessions: clear reads, fast decisions, integrated roadmaps
You
Strategic + executional.
You can build a three-year stack roadmap and ship an experiment next week. You think in systems and move in sprints.
Commercial operator.
You've moved conversion, AOV and LTV before—and you can prove how. You talk revenue per visit, contribution margin, payback windows.
Stack-fluent.
Deep on Shopify (themes, apps, headless trade-offs). Experienced with subscription platforms, CRO tools, analytics, payments. You know what good looks like and can lead agencies without losing pace.
CRO craft.
You've run structured programmes: hypothesis development, test design, proper reads, winners that become standards.
Vendor strategist.
You've evaluated and implemented ecommerce tools that actually delivered ROI. You can build a business case, negotiate a deal, and kill what's not working.
Data-literate.
GA4, GTM, consent, event architecture, cohorts. Clean definitions, simple dashboards, useful insights.
Calm project lead.
Clear briefs, sensible sequencing, on-time delivery. You unblock problems, you don't create meetings.
Brand-aware.
You balance conversion with brand feel. Performance that protects equity, not burns it.
Signals we want
→ A before/after where you lifted conversion and can explain the few changes that moved the needle
→ Evidence you've built or transformed an e-commerce stack (vendor selection, implementation, optimisation)
→ A testing portfolio with learnings that stuck and became standards
→ Proof you've improved subscription economics (attach rate, retention, LTV)
→ Examples of keeping a platform fast, clean and scalable (fewer apps, better performance, happier customers)
