I am currently working with a structural and architectural steel fabricationpany based in Lisburn, in their recruitment of an Estimator. This specialist bespoke contractor delivers stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium projects across the UK and Ireland. They work in rail,mercial, residential and hospitality sectors for a range of contractors across the UK and Ireland. Due to continued growth, they now require an Estimator to join the business.
Your new role
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will prepare accurate,petitive, and timely estimates for structural steel and architectural metalwork projects, supporting themercial and project delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare detailed take‑offs.
2. Prepare cost estimates for materials, fabrication, labour, installation, subcontractors, and logistics.
3. Liaise with suppliers to obtainpetitive pricing and maintain cost databases.
4. Work closely with project managers, OSs, and steel detailers to ensure estimates align with production capabilities.
5. Assess project risks, constraints, and buildability considerations.
6. Prepare tender submissions, bills of quantities, and supporting documentation.
7. Attend pretender meetings and site visits when required.
8. Support handover to project delivery teams following successful bids.
9. Contribute to continuous improvement in estimating processes and cost control.
What you'll need to succeed
10. Experience in steel fabrication, construction estimating, or a related engineering discipline (for senior roles).
11. Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
12. Strong numerical and analytical skills.
13. Proficiency with MS Excel; experience with estimating software is advantageous.
14. Excellentmunication and supplier‑coordination skills.
15. Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications
16. Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Engineering, or similar.
17. Knowledge of BS EN 1090 and fabrication processes.
18. Experience in rail,mercial, or architectural metalwork projects.
