The Role – What is it?

One YMCA operates a sector-leading and welcoming café in Leavesden Country Park. Your role will be to support the Cafe Management in delivering a robust and professional experience for the Woodlands customers, enhancing all activities in the park.

We are looking for an experienced Barista/Café Assistant who goes the extra mile to deliver excellent customer service at all times, influence sales across beverages and food, and always put the customer at the heart of everything they do.

This is a multi-skilled position with varied tasks throughout the day, including till operation, maintaining standards, cooking, and cleaning as you go. It requires a combination of skill, knowledge, and enthusiasm to deliver maximum community benefits while ensuring sustainability is maintained and supporting the growth plan with a flexible approach to achieve and exceed financial and operational targets.

Main Duties – What needs to be done?

1. Provide excellent service to customers with a passionate and enthusiastic approach.
2. Perform daily cleaning, make coffee, handle some food prep duties, clear tables, and operate the computerized till system.
3. Support the Manager in creating an inclusive ethos where cross-department projects are welcomed and support life skills training within the organization.
4. Maintain a flexible approach to tasks, as all colleagues will complete all tasks.
5. Focus on continuous improvement, understanding the unique position of the Café within Woodlands Park, and respecting all stakeholders.
6. Ensure compliance with One YMCA’s H&S policies to capture, monitor, and mitigate risks.
7. Uphold the Food Safety Policy, support colleagues in following food handler’s guidelines, and complete all necessary documentation.
8. Be a role model in service, standards, and approach to tasks.
9. Complete cleaning schedules to the highest standards.
10. Maintain the security and maintenance of the café and outside areas, reporting any issues to the manager.
11. Understand the café’s priorities and contribute daily.
12. Support the Manager in delivering community functions; flexibility within contracted hours may be required occasionally.
13. Ensure all payments are processed in accordance with One YMCA’s financial regulations.
14. Seek opportunities to contribute to the sustainable development and the organization’s commitment to being cleaner and greener.
