About the role.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Buyer on Own Brand Kidswear. You’ll report directly into the Buying Manager and Junior Buyer for the area and manage a Buying Assistant, providing opportunities to further develop your skills.
Day-to-day responsibilities include managing supplier relationships, working closely with the design team to develop a commercial range suited to our customers, and producing reports on trends, forecasts, and opportunities for trade meetings.
We’re looking for an Assistant Buyer with experience at this level or transferable skills in a relevant profession, demonstrating a strong understanding and passion for Buying.
The ideal candidate should be methodical, passionate, possess strong communication skills, demonstrate initiative, have a keen eye for product, understand current market and competition, and have excellent attention to detail.
About you:
* Ability to deputise for the Buying Manager and Junior Buyer in key meetings.
* Effective liaison with Senior Management and clear articulation of category performance.
* Trading actions: identifying ways to improve best sellers and address worst sellers to minimize risk.
* UK supplier appointments and negotiations with managerial support.
* Critical path management, including product approvals and leading the garment fit process.
* Relationship management internally and externally to enhance commercial opportunities.
* Commercial awareness: keeping track of market trends, competitor activity, and price positioning.
* Weekly checks of imagery, pricing, and relevant copy.
* Managing a buying assistant, providing development and career growth opportunities.
* Sample management: chasing samples, collating fit samples, and liaising with VM teams for product visibility.
