Senior Early Years Practitioner / Room Leader

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Early Years Practitioner / Room Leader to join a well-established Children’s Centre in North London supporting children aged 0–5 years.
This role is ideal for an experienced early years professional who is passionate about high-quality childcare, child development, and supporting families. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day organisation of care and education within the room, helping to create a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment where children can thrive.
This is a frontline role requiring full on-site presence and an Enhanced DBS with Barred List check.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support the delivery of high-quality early years care and education for children under five
• Act as a Key Person for a group of children, supporting their learning, development and wellbeing
• Plan and deliver child-centred, play-based learning aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
• Build strong relationships with parents and carers, supporting learning both in the setting and at home
• Monitor children’s development through observation, assessment and planning
• Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals to support families and children’s needs
• Promote positive behaviour and inclusive practice across the setting
• Contribute to the development of policies, planning systems and learning environments
• Participate in training, meetings and continuous professional development
• Support safeguarding procedures and ensure the welfare of children is always prioritised
For candidates at the higher level of the role, responsibilities may also include:
• Leading and coordinating a specific area of the centre’s service
• Supporting and guiding colleagues in best practice
• Monitoring service delivery and contributing to performance improvement
Requirements
Essential
• Level 3 qualification in Early Years / Childcare (or equivalent recognised qualification)
• Experience working with children under 5 in an early years setting
• Strong knowledge of child development and the EYFS framework
• Ability to create a safe, engaging and stimulating learning environment
• Experience building positive relationships with parents and carers
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection practices
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• GCSE English (or equivalent)
Desirable
• Experience supporting colleagues or leading an area of practice
• Experience working with multi-agency teams or Early Help assessments
• Knowledge of current developments in early years education and childcare
Additional Information
• Enhanced DBS with Barred List check required
• Two weeks of annual leave to be taken during the centre’s summer closure period
• Flexible working may occasionally include evenings or weekends
